If your 3DS only charges when the cable is wiggled just right, or it will not charge at all, the charging port is usually worn or loose.

  1. Check the portI inspect the charging port and rule out the charger and cable.
  2. Open the systemThe back cover and battery come off, then the screws holding the board in.
  3. Remove the old portThe damaged charging port is heated and lifted off the board.
  4. Solder in the new portA new port is soldered on and the joints are checked.
  5. Test and reassembleI test charging with the battery in and confirm a firm fit before closing it up.
